McElroy’s is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. It has been serving hearty seafood dishes to hungry diners since 1974. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina completely destroyed the restaurant, but McElroy’s came back stronger than ever and rebuilt.
Now featuring a charming twenty-nine-foot pier and beam supports, McElroy’s has risen to new heights, quite literally, and offers some of the best seafood in the area with unmatched views of the Gulf.
9) Nana J’s Soulful Kitchen
Although Nana J’s does have a Facebook page, you’re better off doing it the old-fashioned way and going to read the daily specials on the chalkboard in person.
Once there, you’ll be greeted with the mouthwatering aroma of savory southern cooking and a rotating menu featuring baked chicken, meatloaf, smothered and fried pork chops, collard greens, mac and cheese, fresh-baked cornbread, and more. At Nana’s, dessert is complimentary, but like every dish on this from-scratch menu, once it’s gone, it’s gone!
