1. Museum of Aviation
Take a journey through aviation history at the Museum of Aviation. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits highlighting significant milestones in aviation.
Committed to the restoration and preservation of historical aircraft and artifacts, the museum is located on 51 acres next to Robins Air Force Base. It features four climate controlled buildings which house historic U.S. Air Force aircraft, missiles, cockpits and award-winning exhibits. The museum also offers ongoing educational and special events.
2. Historic Depot Row
The historic train depot stands as a testament to this region's vibrant past. With four historic buildings, the E.L. Greenway Welcome Center Train Depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Explore the red Southern Railroad caboose X556; browse through Mildred's Country Store, which is full of local antiques; visit the Elberta Depot Heritage Center and World War II Museum; and enjoy the model railroad. The Historic Depot Row will give you a glimpse of life in the 1930s and 1940s. Be sure to take advantage of the free campus tours.
3. Rigby’s Water World
Looking for a way to beat the summer heat? The whole family will relish a day spent at Rigby's Water World. Choose between a relaxing float down the lazy river and the thrill of the water slides. Those with little ones will appreciate the kid-friendly splash zones. Rigby's is a fun way to keep cool during the hot, humid summers!
4. Area Festivals and Markets
The Robins AFB area offers a diverse range of cultural events, from farmers' markets showcasing local produce and crafts to live entertainment.
A few ideas to start your explorations: The International City Farmers’ Market, Macon’s International Cherry Blossom Festival (every March), Georgia Strawberry Festival, and Vintage Market Days of Central Georgia.
5. Nature Trails
After you've exhausted the area around Robins AFB, venture further afield to discover breathtaking landscapes and geological formations. Providence Canyon State Park in Lumpkin, Georgia, often called "Georgia's Little Grand Canyon," is a couple hours' drive away and has amazing scenic views, hiking trails, and picnicking and camping areas.
Stone Mountain Park outside Atlanta is another quick trip down the road. After viewing the large granite dome carving (825 feet above the surrounding area), take a cable car ride to the summit, hike, boat, rock climb, and watch the popular summer evening laser light show, the world's longest running laser light show.
