The Best Golf Courses Near Military Bases

Military members love to take advantage of golfing on various military installations, some in world-class locations. They appreciate the convenience factors, affordable fees, and challenging courses.

Regardless of the reasons why golfers choose their favorites, there are several preferred locations. Specific course names consistently pop up when polling military golfing groups.

True to the diversity within the ranks, there are a few surprise courses in addition to all-time favorite locations. Golfing in Guam, anyone?

Favorite Golf Courses near Military Installations

Whether you're looking for a golf course home or simply adding a golf outing to some upcoming travel, let’s go ahead and get the perpetual list toppers out front. Check the list to make sure you visit them all at least once!

1) Kaneohe Bay Klipper Course

Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

Located near Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay Klipper Course becomes a destination spot for locals and those on leave visiting the islands. This course has sweeping Pacific Ocean views and predictable warm weather that’s tough to beat.

2) The Eisenhower Blue Course

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado

Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., this course consistently ranks high within the best of the best. The course is situated within the foothills of the mountains, and it's not unheard of to catch a glimpse of local wildlife trotting by.

3) The Courses at Andrews 

Joint Base Andrews, Maryland

Joint Base Andrews is home to three courses and has been the premier host for military officials and presidential players for decades. The course's website boasts, “High-end amenities, exceptional facilities, and an unforgettable golf experience are the standard at this military resort.”

4) Eisenhower Lakes Golf Club

Augusta, Georgia

While it has a formidable golf course neighbor with which to compete, Eisenhower Lakes Golf Club holds its own with military golfers. Nine holes were added in 2003, but Robert Trent Jones, Sr., originally designed the first 18 holes. The club has a 27-hole layout that has hosted the All Armed Forces Championship and the All Army Golf Trials.

5) Sea ‘N Air Golf Club

San Diego, California 

This course repeatedly tops many “must golf” lists. The Pacific Ocean provides a breathtaking backdrop, and the rumbling of F-18s thundering above provides unforgettable patriotic drama.

6) Legends Golf Course

Parris Island, South Carolina

The site honors the Southern tradition of hospitality for new players and seasoned golfers. It is located in Beaufort, S.C., and offers a scenic par-72 layout that winds along salt marsh wetlands and deep-water creeks. 

Military Golf Course Fan Favorites

Personal favorites are just that, personal. These courses might be a little less known, but they have enough amenities going for them that they each have a huge fan club.

7) Stryker and Ryder Golf Courses

Fort Liberty, North Carolina

Against a backdrop of Carolina pines and soft hills, your golf skills will be tested with narrow fairways and teeny, tiny greens at Ryder Golf Course. Or, try your luck on Stryker Golf Course, designed by Donald Ross. 

8) The Courses of Clear Creek 

Fort Cavazos, Texas

The Courses are known for their affordability and outstanding pro staff. Plenty of military members take advantage of the Texas Hill Country location, and the sprawling views aren’t bad, either.

9) Fort Jackson Golf Course 

Fort Jackson, South Carolina

This golf course, designed by George Cobb, dates back to World War II. After you've mastered Fort Jackson's two championship courses, explore the 10,000-square-foot clubhouse, pro shop, snack bar, and lounge. 

10) Gallery Golf Course

Whidbey Island, Washington

A perfect setting on Whidbey Island boasts views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and nearby Vancouver Island. Keep an eye out for the abundance of water creatures while you’re enjoying the day on a challenging 18-hole course layout with tree-lined fairways and rolling hills

11) The Eglin Golf Course

Eglin Air Force Base, Florida

The course is ranked #1 in the Air Force Material Command, third among U.S. military courses, and 61st in Florida. Your golf day includes the option to explore 450 acres and play on 250 acres of fairways.

Overseas Military Golf Courses 

Military members are stationed around the globe, so you can bet golf courses will be nearby wherever they live and play. Quality varies, but there are golf options for servicemembers in far-flung places like Japan, Korea, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Turkey.

12) Andersen Air Force Base, Guam

The Palm Tree Golf Course in Guam provides hardcore golfers with a full-service lighted practice area that is open all day, every day. The course is bordered by intriguing jungle scenery and panoramic ocean views.

13) Camp Zama Golf Club, Japan

You’ll putt and drive among 150 annual members while showing off your skills on a course many golfers consider a challenge to their skill level. Rolling greens and water hazards come into play on the 18-hole Par 72 course. 

The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation offices and their online presence are the best places to begin researching the types of golf courses each military installation has available. The fees, amenities, course descriptions, and pertinent open and closing times are available.
